moving servers

the past few days my mobile has not been working. i have requested my company to replace it with a newer device and i should be contactable from wednesday onwards. i have pledged to return a few calls on wednesday and i would do so as scheduled in my diary.

i will be relocating chillicrab to a different server. it would either happen now [in the next 2 days] or during the first week of april. if you encounter difficulties accessing this site during those times, my apologies in advance. there would be a few changes to the new site as i want to eliminate reliance. the gallery would be reworked and the usage of it would become much simpler. the distinction between private and public would hang about as it is. "all this trouble for what?", you may ask. i have the time and the niceties are much too knotty to explain, i say :-)

i, at length, spoke with monica a few days ago. agastya had gone to sleep [well, doh !] and the speech quality on the line was not all that clear. she tried sending me a 200 KB photo of agastya through yahoo mail and it took her 25 minutes to reach the half way point. i told her not to worry about it for now and that she could logoff. i keep glancing at old photos of agastya to keep myself pleased :-)

after holding onto rudhra.com for 3 years, i had to let it go. it was hosted by an indian company based in bombay and they decided to hike the hosting charges. since i put in nothing more than photos up there and since monica has her own gallery these days, i decided not to waste £50.00 this year for an addition 20MB of storage space.

i probably would register the same domain name elsewhere - not sure where or when. i had been on a very long 3G training course {finally} although i had been coding for it the last 6 odd months. i have been assigned some boring work starting tomorrow, for the next one week. i suppose any work we do not want to do could be termed boring.

it has been a while since i spoke with monica. i tried and tried and tried to call her last weekend but the phone lines to indonesia, for some reason, were always busy. she does send me SMS(s) every day. she sent me a couple of photos of agastya and a small mpeg video last week. i had to convince myself that he was infact my son as he looked completely different to what i could recall. but then, babies are like that. you put them to sleep, go to the kitchen to prepare your lunch or dinner and when you go back to tend them, they look different - all in a matter of minutes !!

anyway, i am tired and probably should go to sleep. my sister pointed out a bug in the quiz which i should promise to fix this weekend. good night all.

no tv makes homer go something something ..

it has been more than 1 week since monica left for indonesia and i had not touched the TV until yesterday night. a day after she left, my back gave in. i couldn't move about for 2 whole days. i lived on bread, bread, water and some more bread. then rolled up the transition stage - try and not strain your back, stand straight in a "salute chairman mao" posture - that sort of a thing, if you know what i mean.

yesternight i switched on the TV and saw the top 100 greatest cartoons of all time.

well, no surprises there really.

the house is bloody empty. a week ago the house was filled with enough clatter to drive even the devil mad. can't believe yovita lived here for 2 years. you would take nominal notice of her - walking by, snacking, burping [yes !], whistling and it was all commonplace as far as the last 2 years were concerned. they all ceased, as if, tersely. i miss them all, very much so. i can hear all the floor boards squeaking with better clarity. i get stirred at nights by the central heating turning on or the sleet hitting the glass windows. the house is outright QUIET !

so, what have i been doing to beat this tedium? i stay at work until 8pm or so. the days i come back early, i propose to hit the gym. i have been intensely industrious even at home. i work until 12 in the night, most nights. been mechanising monica's web site. can you notice a few major additions ? it took me a lot of time to get those things done ! please help us if the details are flawed. when i update the database, it will be even more accurate. i bought myself a developer's license for geoBytes and i have been working with 49 megabytes worth of data !. i had to write 1000 odd lines of PHP code to get them all it done – but worth it, mi says. i know where 94% of the existing addresses come from. please [again] help if you find a fault.

agastya has been blowing bubbles and chatting with everyone in semarang apparently. monica sent a SMS today claiming he was quite cranky. but then, he has had his first set of immunisation shots 2 days ago - may be the "shots" are doing their bit :-). well, will blog more later. i am quite sleepy. good night all.

nothing impressive has been happening here – except for the fact that it had snowed 5 days in a row and the nights have been -6 or colder.
