Aga's version of Ramayana

When I picked Aga up this afternoon, he presented me with something in his hand. I looked at it, it looks like a 'candle holder'. He said excitedly, "Mommy, mommy! I have a DEEFER!" I of course had absolutely no idea what he said, then asked the teacher who opened the door, and surprisingly she did say something similar to what Aga had said. It's a DEEFER? I must look it up in the dictionary then, I thought. The teacher said, however, there's a paper inside his book bag explaining what it is.

Curiosly, I opened his book bag at home, and found none other than a shortened story of Ramayana. It titled "The Hindu Festival of Diwali - Festival of Lights."

I asked Aga again.

Me: What did you say that thing was? (pointing at the candle holder thingy)
Aga: DEEFER!
Me: *searching for the word DEEFER in the paper* Ooooh.. it's DIVA (meaning oil lamps, apparently).

Ok. Nagi's the Indian one but he's stuck in Vienna at the moment so he can't confirm. However, I'm curious if he had actually listened to what the teacher said in school. They must have told this story to the kids, I presume.

Me: So, Aga... do you know the story about Rama and Sita?
Aga: Yes!!! When Rama married Sita... and they live in the forest. and then Sita.. DISAPPEARED!
Me: *wow, so he does know*.. How come? Who took her?
Aga: RAMANA!!!
Me: *close enough.. Ravana.* And then, what happened?
Aga: And then.. Rama sends a MONKEY. The name is.. CEYLON!!
Me: WHAT? *that really took me by surprise*
Aga: Yes. And he can FLY!!!
Me: Wait.. what's the name of the monkey?
Aga: CEYLON!!!
Me: Hanuman, Aga!
Aga: Oh yeah! Hanuman. He can FLY!!!!
Me: And then?
Aga: And then they FIGHT!!! And Rama KICKED Ramana!! Like this!!!! *kicking all over the place*.. and he PULL Ramana with the rope!! LIKE THIS!! Ughhhh!!! *pulling something on air* And THEN! Rama CALLED THE POLICE to catch Ramana! Because Ramana is the naughty man. Very naughty man he is.
Me: So what's the connection with the this thing? What is it called? *pointing at the diva again*
Aga: A DEEFER. This is to make Rama and Sita happy.

OBVIOUSLY! Make sense, doesn't it?

Happy Diwali everyone!!

I was just as confused when Digi said similar to me! I must write about this as well. He seemed quite enthralled with the man with 10 heads and the fighting! He wanted to play fighting with his sister.
